Another long overdue post is a revisit of the Greek Burger at Alex’s Tavern. Over the course of this writing this blog and throwing together a couple hamburger festivals, there’s one thing I can tell you about the Greek Burger that sets it apart from almost all other burgers. That’s consistency. At Alex’s, it doesn’t matter if it’s Andy, Rocky, Ms. Evette or Rob cooking your burger at 2 pm or 2 am. You’re going to get the same great burger every time. It’s a 6 oz hand-formed patty, cooked in a cast-iron skillet and seasoned with Cavendars Greek seasoning and a special black pepper blend. Topped with melted Mozzarella and American cheeses, fresh onion, tomato and mustard and served on a fresh hamburger bun, you have the perfection that’s a Greek Burger. It’s a big juicy burger loaded with great hamburger flavor. There’s nothing fancy about it and yet, it’s a masterpiece of deliciousness. The secret is the skillet. Years and years of cooking burgers in it has left it good and seasoned. This is my favorite Best Memphis Burger and hands down I give it 5 stars. It’s where I come to celebrate. It’s the burger I get if I’m just craving the flavor of perfection. And it’s the burger I was fortunate to turn George Motz from Burgerland on to.
Recently I read a review on Yelp from someone unhappy with his Greek Burger who took a jab at Rocky by saying that the Greek Burger was no Soul Burger. Of course it isn’t. They’re two different burgers. Comparing them is ridiculous. To the writer of that review, do yourself a favor and stay at Earnestine & Hazel’s. Stick to your Soul Burger, but don’t get on a public review site like Yelp and give the Greek Burger two stars without reason other than it’s not a Soul Burger.
